The Crown 3/16" Diamond Shaped Parting Tool is very nice parting tool. With the diamond shape, the edge of the tool is the widest part of the tool. This tool is made of M2 HSS steel hardened to 62/64 on the Rockwell C hardness scale. With the quality of the steel and the hardness, you can expect a long wearing edge. The total length of this gouge is over 14 1/2" long with a handle length of 8 1/2". The handle is made of stained hardwood and is fitted with a brass ferrule. Crown Woodturning Tools We have found that Crown Turning tools represent an excellent value in quality turning tools. When you purchase a Crown Woodturning Tool, you are purchasing a product that is designed and crafted by people who understand quality tools. Crown tools are made in Sheffield England. Crown's M2 HSS (high speed steel) turning tools are hardened to 62/64 on the Rockwell C scale so they will hold an edge and unlike plain carbon steel tools, they will withstand the heat generated by grinding. An HSS tool will hold its edge longer and will not readily burn as a carbon steel tool will do on a hard grinding wheel. Having the proper tools for the job is essential. In turning, to have a proper tool means that the tool is designed properly, made of good materials and is produced to the specified design. In addition to meeting the specification, these tools are properly ground, properly heat treated and the handles are well fitted. Sadly, we have seen some other companies that have decided to prey upon the consumer by creating tools that look nice in a photo but do not perform, yet still charge the price of a quality tool. We are proud of the tools we carry and we stand behind our Crown Turning Tools. Do not confuse these tools with similarly priced tools of unknown origin. |
